Q: What kind of frame do I need?

A:The bed is the frame. If you are asking about a box spring, yes, this bed requires a box spring. We bought a low-profile box spring but you can easily use a regular one and it still won't cover up the headboard. There is only a 5 inch difference in a regular box spring and a low-profile.

This unit has a great look. A boxspring is not necessary. I added my boxspring to give my mattress more height. Assembly can be challenging if you don't lay out the hardware necessary to assemble this unit. I'm 5'11 225lbs and the frame holds up fine. For the price not a bad investment.

Q: Is it possible to attach a headboard to this bedframe? I'm interested in the queen size.
A: I have the Twin XL, it fits inside a wooden bedframe with headboard/footboard. The metal frame itself from Lucid does not have holes/bolts to attach a headboard directly to it.

Ordered a bi-fold twin from Oversize Solutions to see if this bed was as all the reviews claimed it to be. Received a quad-fold instead (no complaint here, it's the more expensive option), and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of this product. Baked enamel finish, six sturdy feet, easy setup, and plenty of vertical and horizontal supports for the mattress. Ordered another bi-fold from the same company about a month later and again received a quad-fold (good to go), but was a bit miffed that the frame had been slightly redesigned. It's now a powder-coated finish which isn't really an issue, it's just different, but the center support feet are smaller, there are fewer horizontal and vertical supports, and set up is more complicated as it requires the removal and replacement of 4 wing nuts to secure the foldout portions of the frame. Not a huge deal, but the original design had support brackets that snapped into place as the frame was opened. I was most disappointed in the reduction of the wire-like supports that are spaced across the width of the bed (these are clearly visible in the pictures) from 9 to 7, and the thicker supports spaced along the length of the frame has been reduced from 12 to 10. A cost cutting measure most likely. Still an excellent frame, but it takes a hit with this redesign.

A: nope. You've got a 6 1/2 inch clearance underneath this bed, that 6 1/2" is measured directly to the start of the bottom of the frame itself. (Source: I just measured)
