The shelf itself does the job, but as other reviews have stated the hardware inclusion can be hit or miss. I ordered two and one had all the parts, the other was missing some of the washers but not all. I don't have extra washers on hand, but it will be less headache to just stop by the hardware store and get them rather than return it and possibly have it happen again.

I've tried many different kinds of ledges for enhancing my chinchillas' cage and this one was by far the best. Having 2 screw holes for securing the platform makes a huge difference. The other kinds of ledges I purchased always only had 1 screw hole for securing the ledge, and they always came unscrewed from my chinchillas jumping on them and would eventually fall off the cage bars. This one has yet to do that and is the most sturdy one ever. It also has much more space for my chinchillas to perch. Only getting these from now on.
